The story grows

Ever noticed how the version of a story you have heard many times seems to grow. The fish that got away is bigger; the fool that you were in 1991 is by now, as relayed by your spouse, colossal by comparison; the brilliance of the person telling the tale rises exponentially: no matter what form of stretching applied, the whole effect is of change… or is that the whole change is for effect?

Today’s whoopers are likely to be rather tame. Many will experience a striking shift in disposition. Whatever the change undergone, something about how things are at home may be central to it all. 

For others, the retired sea captain has lots of time to spin a tale… and of course, when telling tales, uplifting stories tend to be better.
