Raw animal instinct
Once, while leading a group meditation at a retreat centre, sounds from a staff cabin next to the meditation hall began to fill the space. A man and a woman had just re-united it seemed, and their excitement at seeing one another again led to loud wrestling and grunting. Furniture could be heard being moved across the bare floor, bodies colliding against the walls, laughter interspersed with long moments of silence, followed by more titanic wrestling and grunting. Of course, this led to those amazing sounds when two lovers join in physical intimacy like two gorillas in heat.
Needless to say, that meditation session was like being at a drive-in theatre where imagination cast images on a big screen while audible sounds came from the speakers left on in the cabin next door.
The orangutan symbol points to raw animal energy which does not care to be caged. There is something golden about it all, as if a passageway has suddenly been opened, the cage door released, or a rough patch that has been successfully navigated spreading into smooth, though somewhat primal, going.
The excitement of freedom and the desire to just let it fly may characterize the experience of many. Expect something to give way suddenly, perhaps in the arena of relationship.
