The key sense of this symbol lies in the attitude and approach towards life.

If one is a student of life, a student of nature… which essentially means a student of the world of appearance in all its forms and ramifications… there is a natural inborn attitude of eager cultivation. ‘To study’ is to apply oneself with eagerness, even devotion, and dare we say, a hunger to learn. 

It is possible that some, as they go through life, silently pass an age point after which the desire to learn fades. Indeed, in the throws of the modern Western cultural context, after working your butt off for many years, it is even expected that one sit down to await that final farewell, perhaps filling in the time with vintage re-runs on the tele. Or, consider the cultural conditioning that says one needs a credential in order to be respected, have earning power and be an authority. There are very important aspects to formal learning, of course, however, does that mean the un-credentialed life-experience of others is without value?

The best teacher is one who exhibits the eagerness of a student, immersed like a tea-bag in the life and love.

Today, close your eyes for a moment and feel yourself immersed in nature. There is ever more to learn and the joys of questing into the unknown soar like earth-bound being who suddenly, and with excited surprise, can fly.
