On “You can’t get there from here”

When driving to a destination across, one follows roadways, employs maps and directions. With any luck, the goal is achieved. In other arenas of life, one follows a course to fulfill ambitions, pursues relations of purpose, seeks fulfillment, healing, restoration, using the same logic: I am here; I wish to be there; figure out the shortest distance, and go.

Ah, but the problem is that so many things in life fall under the heading of, “You can’t get there from here”. Today, many will see a welter of problems and difficulties blocking the straight path to their objectives. What to do?

The noon siesta symbol reminds us that there subconscious and unconscious factors at work in every moment. Sometimes a short power nap re-connects us with deeper parts of ourselves such that solutions arise. The siesta, in effect, changes our minds from narrow, linear ways of thinking. The siesta can change our mood, mellow a bitter taste, soften a hard nut… bring forward the frame of mind needed in order to see the solution.
