The referee… we could say an official who lives by the rule of thumb… may not get it right. A mere inch this way or that can make a huge difference to the fortunes of either team. At stake may be everything.
If you have to make a judgment call today, know that in theory, decisions should add up and make rational sense. In practice, however, you must take a perspective from which to decide. It is a bit rough and ready. And, like the World Cup referee, you are in a no man's land with little chance of receiving appreciation for making a tough call.
